The AIRcable Host XR5 is the fifth generation of our long range Bluetooth® and Bluetooth Low Energy® dongles for PCs and MACs as well as Linux and embedded Linux, now supporting the full Bluetooth 5 standard.
Note: Not all systems implement the additional Bluetooth 5 API extensions yet. Examples are Linux BlueZ and the Samsung Galaxy S8. Try it out!
It is based on our famous long-range (10 km-class) technology. It is equipped with an extremely-powerful, highly-sensitive Bluetooth transmitter, can achieve an unparalleled range of up to 30 km (dish antennas, both ends)! With a standard 9 dBi omni-directional antenna, the extended range is up to 2 km, and with the 18 dBi directional antenna, it is up to 10 km, FCC certified.
Additionally, given its high sensitivity, it can extend the range of weaker Bluetooth devices like cell phones and headsets by hundreds of meters. Our customers frequently report range of 100-200m to a standard smartphone for data communication.
With most other devices only capable of obtaining a range of 10 meters or less, no other Bluetooth device comes even close. Plus, this long-range Bluetooth transmitter connects to any computer with a Bluetooth connection and can handle virtually any Bluetooth profile available. Uses include standard data, streaming data, headsets communication (like Skype calls), stereo headphone communication and Bluetooth Speakers.
This latest edition (XR5) extends the range to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices an additional up to four times or double the speed to 2MBit/s using more robust and adaptive radio modulation. Additionally we upped the number of connections supported at the same time to 15 BLE links, (not just 2 or 5) allowing real world IoT support for your favorite devices and sensors. The broadcast data packets have been extended from 31 bytes to 255 bytes and can now use 37 broadcast channels instead of only 3.
